POCATELLO — Like it was yesterday, Steve Piper still remembers the February night in 1961 when he was 13 years old washing dishes at Buddy’s Italian Restaurant in Pocatello.

Wafts of his grandmother’s signature recipes filled the bijou bistro as he relentlessly worked to keep enough clean dishes and silverware in rotation to meet demand. He succeeded, yet the restaurant still had to shutter its doors about three hours early on opening night as it was also the first time in Buddy’s history the eatery sold out of absolutely every item on the menu.

Opening date revealed for Michigan’s first Portillo’s Chicago-style Italian beef restaurant

STERLING HEIGHTS, MI – After much anticipation, we’ve now learned when Michigan’s first Portillo’s restaurant will open for business. The popular Chicago-style Italian beef eatery plans to open in Sterling Heights on Tuesday, March 16 at 10:30 a.m.

The 7,900 square-foot restaurant will be located off of Hall Road at 14425 Lakeside Circle. We’re told the décor will be retro-inspired and feature the authenticity of the brand dating back to the 1960s, when it was founded.
