I Tried All The Food At Houston’s Minute Maid Park And These Were The Best

Welcome to Stadium Eats, a Delish series where Jackie Iadonisi takes you to the best stadiums in the country to showcase the fans and most importantly: the food.

With baseball season in full swing, I am thrilled to take you on our very first baseball-stadium food tour. The Houston Astros have been one of the hottest teams over the past few seasons, so it was only right to kick things off at Minute Maid Park.

Here’s what you need to try!

Crawfish

In Texas, boiling and eating crawfish is a beloved, long-standing tradition. As a fellow Texan, I was ecstatic that my visit fell on the same day as the stadium’s annual Bayou Bash, a Cajun street festival. While I am no stranger to eating crawfish, I’ve never been brave enough to suck the juice out of the head. Personally, I always thought it was gross. I am happy to report that not only did I try it, but I loved it! The juice was full of flavor with a kick of spice and truly is the best part of the crawfish. Shout out to the die-hard Stros fan who walked me through that process.

The Crawford Dog

Hot dogs are fixtures at baseball games, but the Crawford dog isn’t your average dog. It’s an all-beef hot dog, split in half, seared, and topped off with mustard and bacon-onion jam made with Crawford Bock beer, all on a potato bun. Never would I think a hot dog would be complete without ketchup, but the Crawford dog is an exception. All the ingredients work wonderfully together to create this one-of-a-kind hot dog.

The La Piña Dog

This item was inspired by Astros first baseman Yuli Gurriel. If you’re an “I hate pineapples on pizza” kind of person, just keep scrolling to the next food item. Yuli’s nickname is La Piña because his tall hair resembles the top of a pineapple. The hot dog has smoked pineapples, teriyaki glaze, and candied jalapeños. Not gonna lie, it threw my tastebuds for a loop, but it’s a must-try at the stadium.

Pastrami Sandwich

Yes.

Yess.

Yesss!

I visited the kitchen and saw the staff cutting the pastrami. They cure the meat for two weeks and then smoke it for 14 hours. When you put that much energy and care into food, you know it’s gonna be good. This pastrami sandwich was New York deli-quality: The pastrami was succulent, the coleslaw was fresh, and you could taste the love they put into making it.

Home Run Sandwich

They call it a home run for a reason! Killen’s BBQ is one of Houston’s most popular barbecue spots. The sandwich has layers upon layers upon layers of brisket, turkey, sausage, pulled pork, another layer of sausage, and then gets topped with their homemade barbecue sauce. It will cost you a pretty penny, but it’s totally worth it. I recommend grabbing some napkins before taking it back to your seat.
