Cooking Tips

  • Scallops overcook quickly, so keep an eye on them while air frying.
  • Pat scallops dry using paper towels before wrapping bacon strips around them for cooking.
  • For even more crispy bacon, partially cook the bacon first before wrapping it around the scallops.
  • Choose same-sized scallops so they cook at the same rate. If they are a different size, remove smaller scallops from the air fryer when the bacon is crispy and cook larger ones for longer.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. Arrange scallops in a single layer with space between them on the air fryer tray. You may need to cook the scallops in 2 batches.
  • Different air fryers operate slightly differently. Air fryer cooking times are an estimate, so it’s important to check your food for doneness and adjust as needed.

Delicious Variations

  • Feel free to season scallops with garlic powder, black pepper, old bay seasoning, and more before wrapping with bacon.
  • Brush lightly with maple syrup, soy sauce, melted butter, olive oil spray, etc. before air frying.
  • Squeeze on some lime juice or lemon juice before serving.

Prep Ahead & Storage

  • Prep ahead – Wrap the bacon around the raw scallops and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before cooking. If you par-cook the bacon, make sure it is cooled before wrapping around the scallop.
  • Reheat – reheat for a minute or two in the preheated air fryer.

FAQs

Why Are The Scallops Rubbery?

If they are rubbery, it is likely that they are overcooked. If this is the case, then please cook them for a little less time. And also, precook the bacon slightly before wrapping it around the scallops.

What Is The Difference Between Sea Scallops and Bay Scallops?

Sea scallops are much larger (up to three times larger) and a bit chewier than tender bay scallops.

Because of this, it is best not to substitute them in recipes as the cooking time is different. The bay scallops will overcook quickly in the Air Fryer.
